Hi, I have a young favorole. Not quite to laying age. She has developed what I think is an infection around her eyes. First one, then the other. I'm hoping that you all could help identify it so that I can treat it. I noticed the first eye a few days ago. The poor thing can't seem to see out of both eyes now.

I would like to treat it myself if possible.. I just need to know what to do. I will attach a picture of the face and also a picture of some white nodules that I notice around the neck. I dont know what those are. I am new to chickens. Thanks for your help.

That does look like pox. There's no treatment, it's a virus that runs it's course in about 6 weeks. It's transmitted by mosquitoes.

I'm not sure how you should proceed since both eyes are closed. You may need to syringe feed her. Mine have always had at least one eye open so they can eat and drink. Hopefully someone who has dealt with helping them will chime in.

We've had lots of mosquitos here in florida for the past couple months. :( I just bought some zappers to help control them - which help a lot. If it runs it's course will she get her eye sight back?
