Info on raising camel

i hope some more people focus on saving them! last i herd they was only like 700 left
 
My FIL had some dromedary camels but sold them last year.

From what I've seen is that they are similar to horses. They need hay, grain, salt block, and water. I know he had to worm them every so often. The females are pretty friendly. They handle the cold weather here in northern NY pretty good.

One problem as far as breeding is that the males have to force the female down to mate. If the male isn't big enough then the female won't get bred or if two females gang up on him. My FIL had one that got their hip broke from a male trying to force her down. The males are dangerous when they come into the rut.

My FIL didn't have any luck with trying to raise and sale them due to breeding problems. One of the females had problems giving birth to a large male that the baby died. We had to bottle raise one due to the mother not taking care of it. One got lumpy jaw but the vets didn't know what it was and when one finally realized what it was it was to late.
