The chickens went berserk so I sent out child and dog to check on them. Child starts screaming bloody murder so I go flying out - barefoot.

She's screaming the dog caught a giant bird. Now we all know the odds of my dog catching a vulture are somewhere between slim and none, so I suspect the bird was injured before the dog got to it. DD called the dog off she said, but the bird never even attempted to fly away. The dog pulled its tail feathers out but it cannot extend its wing on one side. The bird is sitting on my deck fence.

Big bird. I called the game commission. I didn't know what else to do.

What happens next??

What did the game commission say? Sounds like it needs a wildlife rehabber. You should be able to find one online that takes birds. Otherwise, contact your closest captor center. They will know what to do.

We had wicked storms here last night. My guess would be storm injury.

But, he left.

He could not fly so I know he cannot be far. I guess I will tell the game commission that when they call back.

Mother nature has the most efficient recycling system. If he hides is the under brush something else will kill him tonight.

I was hoping for rehab, but he was not willing to hang around and wait.

I cannot get them from my phone to computer right now... I'll try when DH gets home - he has the cord on him. I was trying to send it from my phone via email but it didn't work.

Heads up - I wouldn't try to corner him to catch him. Let the rehabber deal with that. Vultures' defense mechanism is to projectile vomit when they are threatened. And you know what they eat...
