I found him like this in the coop a few minutes ago. I now have him under the lamp with water and food
what do I feed him? can I use my kids liquid bandaid (painless)?

It looks like the other chicks have been pecking it. Can you isolate it so they can't do any more damage? They will continue to peck at it because of the red area and also because of weakness. When this happened to one of my chicks I put antibiotic ointment on it until it healed. and kept the little one isolated, and it did heal and got all her feathers back. Hope the little one heals soon.

yes of course I took him inside as soon as I saw him. I washed his back with salt water. then I put my kids liquid bandaid on. wrapped him up
he is not concious

he seems to be doing a bit better. I had to take the bandaging off because he was moving around. he drank a little bit
I wonder why this happened?? He was in with mama hen and the other chicks

Ok so buddy is doing much better this morning. he ate 2 tablespoons of rice during the night and he drank quite a bit
he still has this huge hole on his back skin where you can see his muscle. will that heal on its own?

As long as he is eating and drinking he will probably heal. The neosporin is a good idea, just use the stuff without the pain relief, that is probably the best thing you can do for him. When you go to reintroduce him when he is fully healed watch him carefully, you can also try blu-kote. That is supposed to help prevent pecking. Poor baby, that is a horrible wound!

I notice everyone recommending the antibiotic cream without the pain relief. why is that?
I will def. get some blu kote. I think what I will do when I reintroduce him is get a red light to put in the coop just to be sure

I can't get over how this could've happened though. I keep wondering If I'm gonna find more of them in that condition

poor guy, this morning I was watching a clip of chicks hatching the old fashioned way with a broody hen. well as soon as he heard the moma clucking he got agitated. He probably thought it was his mom
