You can check out more details in my last post, but yesterday afternoon I noticed one of my week old coturnix quail chicks was limping. It's only gotten worse. He doesn't seem like he is in pain: He gets around to the food and water with everyone else, and even jumps and plays. When I stretch or massage the leg he seems fine with it. None of the chicks are crazy about being held, but he doesn't freak out. If anything, he is more docile than the rest of them. He also spends a lot of his time under the heat plate in the brooder, and seems to try and stay away from the rest of the chicks for the most part. His leg is very much splayed, but I think problem is with his hip not slipped hock.
I read online that chicks tend to hide when they are in pain by hiding and lying down a lot, which I think this chick might be doing but I'm not entirely sure. He is still able to get around even if it pretty awkward though, and I don't want to cull a chick that would be able to survive but I also feel so guilty that the little guy might be in pain. This is my first time raising chicks and I don't know what to do. Should I wait and see what happens? Should I cull him? Any advice is appreciated.
