I have never personally used it but from what i hear it will help in the wound to help healing.

Does this look angry and inflamed? Or better and starting to heal

Looks like a scab is forming and starting to heal from what I can tell. In my experience scabs look pretty rough for about a week and then usually peel and a new scab forms that looks better. The healing phases can be confusing and often look worse than they are.
