Injured Duck

Kaybug, I definitely **would not** try to amputate! Have you been able to make any contact with a vet yet? I must agree with Amiga, I think your duck needs Vetrinary Care.

Ive had a problem when my dog had a chunck of my duck i was scared we put him in the house i cleaned it with peroxide and put neosporin on it then gauze on it to heal i did it every day and he was fine and hes the one i have as my picture to the left i love my baby it took days but it helped

There are no vets here that take poultry. and I think the zoo would just put him down.. the bone is a brownish color.. And do y'all think it'd fall off at the joint after time? Hes also still on antibiotics and still being sprayed to keep fly's away. He went for a swim today in his pool. I would put him in with the broody hen but after the babies hatch he'd most likely kill the chicks. also the hen would mess with him also. So I will build a coop for the ducks..

Have no idea about the bone. it may when it completely dies, but if he is having a hard time walking because of it, he'll always be a special needs duck the other will most likely single him out because he will appear hurt to them. [In the wild it's natures way of preserving the species] but domestic it's up to us to do what we can to protect and keep healthy and safe. Is his wounds already healed over except for the bone sticking out? I would diff make a duck pen and you might have to put fencing up down the middle to keep your other ducks from messing with him but that way they can all be together so to speak.

The other ducks are babies. And he has no problem walking.we let him outside when we let the youngsters out and he runs to the coop. His wounds apprea healed from tghe best I saw. The bone is brown. He favors a pillow. He's very spoiled. Healthy. But skiddish. I understand why. But when the babies are with him they don't bully. He's curious about them though always near the brooder.
