So, I recently got 6 ducks from tractor supply. They're about 2 months old now. There's one duck that jumped out of the pool and had been limping and not moving too much on his left leg. I wrapped it with vetwrap and kept him in a small dog crate for about a week. But he kept limping and now the poor baby can barely walk at all. He just kinda tries to balance himself with his wings. And then about 4 days ago I had opened the door to the duck coop in the morning and one was coming out and another just plows over top of her and knocked her off the little ramp and now she can hardly walk. She like leans backwards with her legs kinda out in front of her and I have no idea what to do. I'm trying absolutely anything to save these poor babies and I feel absolutely awful.. ive been doing everything I can to help them. I separated them both into small areas and wrapped the legs with vetwrap, I've tried to let them float in a deep pool so that they aren't putting pressure on their legs, and for the past two days I've had them in a sling/ support thing that held them up so that they weren't on their legs at all. Ive been giving them tons of fruits and veggies like corn, peas, strawberries, apples birdseed and yogurt along with their regular feed to try to keep them healthy. What else can I do? If my only option is to take them to the vet I will, but it's two hours away and I imagine it would cost a fortune for them to fix their legs. But if that's what it takes I'll do it in a heartbeat. I just want to know if I have any other options left before hand/ if I'm able to do anything to help them on my own.

Are you giving your duckling chick grit? If the are eating anything besides their starter feed they need chick grit or they have no way to grind it up(since they don’t chew) I’d also while your getting chick grit pick up the B complex. Liquid is best TSC carries it in the cattle section says injectable but we give it orally to our birds 1ml per sickly daily. It’s great for leg issues which your do sound like it could be a dificiency. I’d treat asap. If you feel both are more of an injury then maybe vet should be seen but young ducklings can become niacin defecient pretty quick and we can miss it till they are showing noticeable symptoms.@Morgan282

It might be time to take the one to the vet and if you are taking one since it is so far away, just take the other too. It is hard to judge what is wrong with them over the net. But, since you already gave the one a week of rest and it did not get better, but worse time to get some professional help.

As well, might be time to evaluate your set up. Ducks do like to push due to their excitement, so maybe a wider ramp is in order.

He may have niacin deficiency. I’ve never dealt with it before with my ducks but it sounds like it might be what’s going on. Here are some links to some articles that may help you if this is the case:

Oh and :welcome

Thank you so much for the articles! I've given them some vitamins to help with the niacin and it seems they've gotten stronger the past few days, one of them even got out of the sling on his own! Hopefully that's all it was and that they'll return to full health soon!

Thank you for the advice! I do make sure I add grit to their feed, but I did go to tractor supply and picked up some of the b complex! It seems like they won't really touch the water when I put it in their water though.. I also picked up some niacin from Walmart to mix into their food since they weren't really drinking the water. Any tips for that? They do seem to be getting better, definitely stronger for sure. One got out of his sling by himself. Hopefully that's all that's wrong and it's not a serious injury. I'll give it a few days or a week and see how they do then if there's still something off I'll take them to the vet and see if there's anything they can do.

Thank you for the advice! They seem to be getting stronger and able to keep themselves up a bit better since I've been adding the vitamins. If they aren't fully better here in a few days I do plan on taking them to the vet. And before I got my ducks I was reading about their coop and setup and read about needing a wide ramp and door so I made it wide enough for two ducks to fit out at once and same with the ramp, and it's not too far off the ground, only about 3 inches of that, but they wouldn't come out without a ramp so I made one.
