I've been calling vets around me to get prices. It's around $40 for examination and $200 per duck for an X-ray plus $60 for any meds and an additional $200-$400 per duck for surgery

$40 is very reasonable for an office visit, but yeah, the other stuff adds up. Go and get just the exam and figure out the rest later.

To help with getting them to drink the niacin water, you may want to dunk their bills into the water so they recognize what it is. The smell might be throwing them off. I would give the niacin a few days to work, but it sounds like you're already seeing big improvements which is great! I'd wait to see how the niacin helps before taking them in. We thought one of ours had a broken leg, but it was really just a niacin deficiency. Since you've already bought everything, might as well wait to see if it'll save you all the money from going to the vet!
