Injured eye covered in puss

I have to apologize about yesterday at the time of my post I had been up for well over 24 hours and I was aggravated that I had to dispatch such a young chick. As much as I understand it’s a part of being the charge of animals it does pain me to have to do it when it wasn’t the initial plan so again I apologize for my angry outburst

I understand that you were only venting and frustrated. When I was new to chickens, I bought a lot of hatching eggs of rarer breeds, and found that I got poor hatch rates. The less rare breeds had better hatch rates. Incubation can be difficult when learning about humidity and temperatures, as well as knowing about better incubators. I was blessed with a lot of hens who went broody, so I found that hatch rates were better with broodies and my own eggs. Good luck in future hatching.

Although I’m not new to chickens or incubating it has been about 8 years so at the very least I’m rusty but I do understand what your saying and this was the first time incubating shipped eggs we always incubated eggs our chickens laid so naturally we always had way better hatch rates and it wasn’t very often that my grandpa got anything less that 85% hatch rate I just really expected better results when I actually had a better incubator. I had one set of eggs that looked great all twelve great development then come day 16 chicks started dying in the eggs when it was all said and done two chicks hatched I don’t imagine there was anything I did to cause that kind of outcome but I could have I suppose don’t but I was happy with two cause it was two more than I had before then but now I got 5 chicks in the brooder and four in the coop so it’s a good start anyway

No apologies necessary!
I knew you were frustrated and it's distressing to put one down so young :hugs

I hope all goes well with your babies.
