Our Cochin Stella (approximately 16 weeks) injured her leg. Unknown how. No obvious injury, not bleeding bruised. But Stella favors the leg and will barely walk on it.

How do I manage her pain?
It doesn’t feel/look broken, should we attempt to splint it?
Do we need to see a vet?

A few days of resting the leg while separating her in a dog crate with food and water may help to see if it is just a sprain. Even sprains may take weeks to heal. Does she hold the leg up or put weight in it? A vet could xray the leg to see if it may be fractured. Have you looked for evidence of a scab on the foot pad that might be bumblefoot? I would also look for bruising, redness, or swelling of the whole leg and joints. Make sure that she can get to food and water, and is taking them.

No scabbing, bruising or redness is noted. She holds the foot up and tucked in when standing up, she attempts to walk on it and puts some weight on it but will limp. Thanks for the reply!

How is she doing? I had a hen get her foot stick on a table and knocked the table over trying to get away. It took about 2 weeks before she was using it enough to be allowed out with the others again. But she had some bruises and abrasions from the fall

She healed well! We kept her separate from the rest of the girls for a week, mixed baby aspirin in her water and let her rest. She is running around just as normal again!
