Injured Racing Pigeon Found

Pidove was pecking really hard, so I doubt it was her mistaking my fingers and thumb for food. :p She takes food gently from my hand, but was mauling it when I partially closed it. She also attacks my hand with hard pecks if I pull away before she is finished eating... :lau

They can be ornery little beasts. Homers/racers are pretty notorious for being aloof critters. While they may fly to your hand or land on you to eat, they are generally not too keen on cuddling, and more often than not would rather peck or slap you away. But they do appreciate the treats.

I think she will make an effort to train you! This bird is not returning to her prev owner - she has a mind of her own. :lau

Indeed! :lau

Pidove still has her moments in the evenings, but she is less cuddly now and is more independent... Though she still follows after me if I leave the room. :p So far she hasn't slapped at me, but she does peck when food is involved.

She is rather stubborn too, when she was taking a nap in the middle of the living room on the floor, you had to walk around or over her as she refused to budge! :lau Seems she sees herself as the ruler of the roost now.

Pffft :lau
I dozed off... And woke up to my dad having an epic battle with Pidove, trying to get her to step up onto his hand so he could put her away for the night, while she pecked the hell out of his hand angrily cooing!

I had to go and collect her from atop the door and she even put up a fight against me, but I won by scooping both hands up under her so she couldn't just scoot to the side away. :p

Pidove and my cat have a strange relationship, both are basically right next to one- another on the window watching the wild birds outside, and when Angel started grooming herself, Pidove started preening herself at the same time. :p

Normally Angel is scared of any strange birds I bring in, but she doesn't mind Pidove it seems.

It was a deep "Cooraagoo! Cooraagoo!" sound, so I am wondering if she is actually a young he as I have heard male rock doves make that sound before. :p
My pigeon does that... he also growls and smacks at me... lol, I am beginning to think he really is a male since there are no eggs yet and he's plenty old to be laying if female.

Pidove hasn't smacked... Yet, but Pidove does grab onto your skin and start twisting it about! :lau It doesn't even really hurt that much despite how vicious it looks.

I have a male with a slender neck and a feminine looking head who is my best daddy - produced 2 lovely babies and another egg yesterday with his 'wife'. He was given to me with another bird and was thought to be female at the time - they were about 3 months old. It's just hard to tell.
