Injured toes, painful

Kinda looks like bumble foot on two toes maybe he pecked it out of pain or his siblings pecked it cuz it looks different?

Maybe three now middle one looks to have a small bump on side dont suppose a vet visit is easy for u ? It isnt for me lol

That looks really painful. Soak his feet in warm water with some epsom salts a couple times a day and see how it looks over the next day or two. Hopefully it will get better.

Are your birds on wire? If so, do they have dirt boxes or someplace to rest their feet from it?

Thanks for all the replies.

So, most people think it may be bumblefoot? I was under the impression that happened to the middle pad part of the foot and not the toes?

I checked the other quails and their feet / toes are fine.

The floor of the aviary is natural earth, covered mulch of leave and powered up coconut fiber. Been using this for many years and this is the first time there has been a problem with a birds foot, so I don't think it is the flooring. Also there is large shallow clay plant pot saucer on the floor for my other birds to bath in, and the quails like to paddle around in it which keeps their feet clean also.

I am using antibiotic cream on his toes. Is that OK? I will look up about bumble foot in chickens next and see how they treat it in these birds.

PS, they quails are really friendly to each other and no pecking or fighting, or even missing feathers.

It can happen all over the foot or toe it can even happen from somthing small and sharp poking them then they walk in some poop and that can start it from what i read

Talked to a neighbour who breeds chickens. He reckons my quail has gout.

Says he thinks I shout put it to sleep. I read on the net that it's too much protein. They do eat chick starter and mealworms too. So I am going to try a change in his diet.

Millet and a cheap adult chicken general purposes feed.

Just a quick update.

I got some human gout medication from the pharmacy. I fed the quail a tiny part of the pill yesterday and today.

Today he was actually walking about. Before he would only sit in one place. So I think some of his pain has gone. His back toe was bent forward under his foot, but now its back to normal position. The swollen toes are still swollen, and the tip of one toes has gone black and looks like it will fall off.

However, the toes don't look so angry and sore as a couple days ago.

I put him back with the flock as I don't want problems to introduce him at a later date.

I put all the quails on a lower protein diet of a general cheap chicken feed with ground corn mixed in. No more mealworms or chick starter feed. I also started feeding more greens (I never fed vegetables to them before).

Each day I will give him a tiny bit of the pill, and keep him on this diet.

For humans it takes months for gout in the feet to subside. I am hoping that he will recover faster as birds have such fast metabolisms and heal quicker than humans.

I will let you all know how he is in a weeks time. If he has got worse I probably will put him to sleep. Hoping he will start to get better!!
