Sounds as though your doing everything right! It will take a month or two before the skin is replaced. It looks horrible but it will heal just fine, either with antibiotic creams or without, I've had many birds scalped that healed all on their own, without any assistance from me....they were too wild to catch and that would have just stressed them more, so I didn't try to medicate.
