The washer and dryer (hot) should kill any mites present, and insecticide and thorough cleaning in the room will be necessary, probably repeated weekly for three weeks.
And no birds in the bedroom, or better yet, in the house!
Mites and lice can be seen at night, with a flashlight, looking at the birds while they are roosting. Around their vents, necks, under wings. The mites are very tiny but moving specks, lice are larger.
Permethrin spray kills them, or permethrin dust if it's cold were you live. Indoors, any insecticide. Yuck!
