Insight into what breed these chicks might be...?

Hmm...From what I've been reading (and been doing tons of it) it seems the single comb doesn't mean its a mix just that it isn't homozygous for the rose comb gene and that it commonly happens with hatchery chicks because they breed for quantity instead of traits. Am I wrong? Doesn't matter to me what kind of comb they have, I just want them to grow up and give me eggs. Really hope they aren't both male.

I have 4 supposedly guarentee pullets so gender isn't really an issue but I don't want to have to put my first chicks in the freezer when they grow up either. My banty's do have me stumped as to what breed they are though.

For some reason it's really nagging me that I don't know. I'm weird that way though. lol Guess I'll just have to wait until they are older.

I wasn't implying that the chick is a mixed breed, but rather the difference in combs doesn't mean you have a pair. You can't use the different combs as comparison that one is cockerel and one is pullet. I think they're far too young to guess gender of Wyandottes.

I worded my reply strange sorry. Lol I didn't mean you were implying they are mixed but when you said the one had a normal comb and the other a single it caught my attention and made me look up the breed traits. When I specificly searched about the comb most of the results talked about the single mistakely thought to be a sign of the bird having mixed breeding. My reply was kinda farther into the conversation in my head rather than what exactly you said. Lol if that makes sense. But thanks for pointing that out to me. Gave me more to research. ;)

bilbo looks like a rooster to me, im not sure what it may bee tho... the black and white one will be very ad to tell as i know many hybreeds and cross breeds that come out in this colour.

and i noticed the pure black one has black legs also, this would narrow it down to a few breeds, but the thing is it may bee a cross. its to early to tell yet

Hellion is indeed a bantam. All of 4 inches tall and acts like he/she is 4 ft. :) He has a single black comb to match his attitude...he acts more his cute little size when I pick him up tho. Was nestled in my hoodie earlier while I was cruising the forums. Lol
