Inspiring Story: Teacher, Transplant Recipient, and Chicken Enthusiast

Hi Luke! Hope you had a great 11/1/11 today. That photo of your chicken on your friend is hysterical. He's a good sport to have put up with a chicken landing on his arm. I'm sorry you lost your rooster, but with the great new digs the rest should be safe from harm.

Awesome job with that coop!!

UPDATE: Labs. The numbers came back elevated. It is quite depressing. I've had to increase my insulin (which is brand new for me-I'm always uneasy to prick and stick). I've also had to nearly double the dosage of Prednisone. If you know Prednisone, then you know why this is something to complain about....

But, complain I won't. I have good people like BYCers from all over the country keeping up with my case and keeping me in thought. I get a new set of labs tomorrow, visit my psychologist Friday, and my follow-up appointment with my liver and hepatology team is Monday. I'll go prepared with an overnight bag...just in case.

But I'm hoping for the best!

Meanwhile, my nearly completed coop is missing a roof. A parent of one of my former students emailed North Carolina A&T State University's farm to tell my story and to ask if they would be willing to pick up and deliver the panels that I need in order to complete the roof. They MIGHT just do it. I hope so...

Talk later BYCers!

It was hilarious. But he was a trooper.
And yea, the loss sucked, but I plan to have a clear, polycarbonate roof atop pretty soon. So that will change things.

Thanks FourPawz

Sorry about your numbers Luke,

Off to start my new job, as a kindergarten teacher! I am so excited. I think I have the school convinced to let the kindergarteners put in a garden (plan, design, decide on what to plant and let parents build...) maybe next year we can have chickens...

Wow!

Well congratulations on the new job. I don't have the stomach for kindergardeners, so KUDOS to YOU. The whole garden idea is phenomenal. I was just speaking with one of my transplant surgeons about the chickens and she mentioned her daughter's daycare had this whole "sustainable living" theme. So the garden AND chickens (and even a goat) were all a part of that.

Good stuff. Fight the good fight.
