I had this happen to me. I was shopping for a new car - had narrowed down my choices on-line, then went to the dealerships.
The day I visited this one dealership - I was on my way home from work and had a nasty cold so wasn't feeling or looking my best. The salesperson promptly refused to show me any new cars, only offering used vehicles - apparently b/c he thought that I looked like I couldn't afford a new car. Well - I bought my car elsewhere.

It is soooo wrong when someone makes assumptions based on gender/looks/age but I know it happens all the time. Espeically with women and automotive.

I would absolutely bring up this situation to management. They may or may not care, but at least you'll feel better that you said something.

I will assume this lumber yard is part of one of the large chains?

The only reason I would call the store manager is to request the name
and address of the district manager.

The store manager is at fault for ALLOWING one of their employees
to act in such a way as to disrespect a customer.

Explain nicely only ONCE why you require the district or zone manager.

When you get to this point, what is it that expect the store to do?

Such people only have to deal with my wife once to end up with an attitude adjustment, and she can do so without raising her voice. She's had good practice - dealing with me.

Those are some pretty good stories. I feel much better.
They are a small local lumber yard. What is funnier then anything after this happened I went to our tire store to get new tires for our family truck. The tread was getting pretty thin.
One of the employees we know his family really well and he is a great guy.
Got helped right away and I was still steaming and told them what happened. They couldn't belive the way I was treated there. These guys have shopped there.
While waiting a guy came walking in wearing a jacket bearing the logo of this lumber yard. The guys were immediately telling me that he doesn't work for them, calm down and they said some crazy things just to make me laugh. No wonder I buy all my tires there.
This poor guy had no idea what happened. I told him. Turns out he is a good friend of one of the owners, a WOMAN!
Now how funny is that. He was going to tell her what happened.

My funniest experiences vehicle shopping were so funny. I have to say my 2 most favorite were one shopping with a male friend and one with DH.
I was looking for a vehicle to get me to work. Went with my friend to several different lots. One salesman told there were no leaks on this one and I laid on the ground and crawled under and told him the head gasket was busted and there was oil all over the back of the motor. No leaks huh?
Second funniest one is DH and I went looking for a pickup. we were at this one lot. Salesman was really trying to get us to buy this truck. Antifreeze was down at least 3 inches and the oil was over filled. We knew where the antifreeze went. They tried to tell us it was down due to evaperation. say what? After trying to talk to them to agree to fix the problem and them claiming there was no problem I looked at them and informed them that DH was a diesel mechanic and I was a heavy equipment operator we know about diesels.
We left the lot without that truck.

Now there's an arguement I could've used when the kids were growing up. "Just think of this as practice on how to handle it in the real world/when you're grownup!"

Called and talked to the manager today.
I almost bit the ladies head off who answered the phone.
I asked to speak to the manager. She said why. I said I wanted to speak to the manager and she said well I need to know which area hon.
Excuse me?
This woman is not a good friend of mine to call me hon or any other name.

I spoke with the manager. Told him the service I have gotten has just cost them over $20,000 since I would not be buying drywall, insulation, bathroom fixtures, paint nor would I buy anything from them for our new porch which is bid at $18,000.
Then I took great delight in giving him the name of the board I was looking for and telling him the company that makes it were not happy hearing that as their supplier they were telling people it did not exsist.
He was very apologetic but told him I was not coming back
