Insurance company cancelling us!

I would be curious to know why they are cancelling your insurance because of the chickens. What is it they think the chickens can do that could cause a claim? My MIL had her fire insurance cancelled because she was too far (ten miles) from the fire station. Of course if they had bothered to check, the fire house that actually covered her house was just a couple hundred yards down the road the other direction. Didn't matter.

I also have Foremost insurance and they treated us wonderful after Katrina. Not sure their reason for the cancel but am betting your state being Ca. has something to do with it.

I wonder if they've had to pay claims from nasty rooster attacks

? Also, there are diseases like Avian Flu that make people nervous. An insurance company might worry about food poisoning from the sale of eggs.

Just some possibilities.

OH you are awesome friends! I am calling USAA on Wednesday and plan on yanking two policies for two different properties from Foremost! Thanks for caring everyone! Don't forget our San Diego Meetup on September 25.

Maybe the chickens were playing with matches when the inspector came by...

But seriously, USAA was wonderful when we had them. We switched to Liberty Mutual because my husband gets a generous discount through his employer but we had USAA for 10 years and they were great to do business with.

You-all are a wealth of information! It never occurred to me that insurance could be canceled due to having chickens. Now I know, and if it comes up, I have a reference to a good insurance carrier. Thanks!

It isn't a good idea to 'hide' things that could cancel your insurance. Insurance companies do DENY claims. Don't give them ammunition. There are companies that willingly insure small farms/animals and the premiums are not atrocious. I know I was initially upset when I got the cancellation notice regarding my horses, but quickly found another company with comparable rates.

Never even heard of them!

What does it stand for? I am having no trouble, currently, but I am sure paying a stiff premium due to the requirement for rebuild value here in TX. Other states might insure you for that you paid, here you have to dish out according to what it would cost to get everything you aquired replaced. While that is a comforting thought, it is quite a strain when you make out that check.

Shopping around never hurts.
Crazy that chickens could cancel your policy though. Alligators, yes, but chickens?
