I just merged my 'young' flock today as well. As for me, I could them in breeds. In my adult pen I know I have 9 rouens, 6 blue rocks, 5 barred rocks 6 silver pheasants and 2 extra hens. So 28 birds isn't so hard.

I sure hope when I'm ready to move some it goes as smoothly! That is my biggest worry with them!

tx dane mom, I count my breeds, too. It does help alot. This was my biggest worry and it seems that all will be well sooner than I imagined. Whew!

Well, Dutch is a MAN, now! He is mating the women... the older women. One day after I mixed the older laying flock with my 20 teens. I doubt he's even fertile yet, not at just 15 weeks today, but he mated both Glenda and Gypsy. Gypsy, my black Ameraucana, has a thing for Barred Rock roosters.

Just wish it was Zane in with her (sigh). It was hilarious when I caught him mating Glenda. She is the daughter of Suede with my Buff Brahma and is the largest of my younger layers, even larger than her own mama. Dutch was too short to even really reach her backside, but she sure did squat and he gave it supreme effort, LOL.
