Integrating a new Rooster?

If that were all to happen I would be very pleased.
That's exactly what I've seen here as well. The cockerel will trail around behind them for about a week or so, being cautious until they finally warm up to him. Luckily mine have always followed the girls into the coop at night. Normally it's a very smooth and easy transition for all.

I too have many times added a rooster, it really is the easiest. Once I was going to do all the separating like what you proposed, but I got called away unexpectedly, and must not of had the door securely latched, and when I got back, he was out, and with the girls, and by the next day, they were in love.

Once I added one, and there was a bit of bluster between the top hen and him, but quickly settled. And the last one roosted on the pullet roost for a week, but finally made his way up there.

Just not anywhere near the drama of adding hens.

Wilfred has what appears to be lice; I have heavily powdered with sulphur; will spray with Permethrin this Sunday (we are to have a warm day). Repeat for 4 weeks,

He is segregated in a cage in the garage, I will also spray the cage with Permethrin on Sunday and weekly for 4 weeks.

This will delay my hatching plans.
