Interesting Goat kid question/surprise **GRAPHIC PICS PG4**

Disbudded. You need to get her disbudded. Not polled. Goats are born polled, hornless. You disbud babies with horn buds. I highly recommend it as well. Even sweet tame goats who love and respect you can have accidents. I have a huge scar on my upper thigh to prove it. I accidentally was in between my special girl, who is herd queen, and a goat that needed a thrashing. Not her fault, my fault, but it still cemented my opinion in. I bought a disbudder that week and disbud all babies now.

Hermaphrodites are unusual, but compared to other species, sort of common in goats. Most I've seen however, showed a vulva with a protrusion. I would be really interested in seeing pictures of your kid's parts as well.

Upon closer inspection, this is all so weird. The penis does not have an opening...it is sealed, but you can feel everything inside. The vagina is really interesting and is more of a small slit with a hole...guess that is how it should look?? Never really examined a goat's genitals that closely before. You normally cannot see it when he/she is standing up and all of that, but I kinda had to hold him down for this picture so his butt cheeks are a little spread out. I do believe in one of these pictures, you can see the teets on each side of the testicles...I am trying to take these pictures on my own as I am the only one home right now, but will try to get better ones later. **Note: She is a little dirty right now because I haven't had a chance to give her a bath. I have been waiting on her umbilical cord to finish drying out and to drop off**

Very interesting.

I would lean more to thinking that he is all he, but has had problems while developing in the womb. it seems he has a defect called hypospadia. It actually is a blessing regarding urinary calculi, as when male cats get them over and over they often do a surgery to rerout the urethra just as that kids is. Can cause increase in UTIs too. Saw a pug born like that once and they "made him a girl" in a surgery.
can you palpate testicles or are they in the body cavity?

hermaphrodites look more like this:

Yes, I can palpate testicles. They are both the same size and feel like normal testicles to me. (I used to show dogs with my mom and male deformities are unacceptible)

I had posted that I had heard of the hermaphrodites where they have a penile protrusion in their vulva earlier....this right here just confuses me to no end.

I was just doing some more reading on this and it seems like just a case of hypospadia

You can look it up and come to your own concusion, though the wiki link is a little gross ha!

Thank you for helping me out! From your knowledge, does this cause any problems besides maybe the occassional UTI? I don't want any long term complications to come of this.

That is what I was going to suggest. It is a birth defect. I would classify the kid as a male from looking at the external anatomy. If it is only going to be a pet, I would go ahead and get him castrated around 8 weeks of age at a vet office.

I would be concerned that the opening for the urine would become infected or clogged with fecal material. It looks red and inflamed now and it may or may not get worse as the goat gets older and starts eating solid food. See if the vet says about getting the correct opening opened up and the slit the urine is coming out of now closed up. It will most likely improve his quality of life and make things easier for you, as well. The slit he is urinating out of does not look like female anatomy.

Here is a picture of kids about the same age, both doelings. You can see the difference in the female anatomy and what you have pictured. Also, note that both does and bucks both have teats, just like men and women have nipples.

No, no other problems. Its actually in all honestly a good thing for a wethered goat to be like that! You can wether him asap too as it will be easier on him to do it now. The younger the better. The only reason people wait is so the urethra can grow bigger so stones can be peed out. No worries there!
