I have a hen that I think is laying internally! It even has one of the undeveloped eggs or something sticking out of her butt. How do you cure this. I'll try to get some pictures taken soon.

That is not internal laying. Sounds more like eggbound or possibly a prolapse. You won't see any egg with internal laying. With a prolapse, you would put hemmorrhoid ointment on the prolapse then gently push it back in, however, I have never had to do that, so someone else should probably help you with this one.

Sounds like a soft-shelled egg. Those are tough for them to push out- if you can pull it out gently, you should. This happens from time to time and is not a big deal. If any flesh seems to be protruding from the vent, OTOH, that is prolapse, and Preparation H will help the tissues shrink back into place. Internal laying you won't see, the chicken just keeps the yolk material inside and never produces the egg, the stuff just builds up inside...

Well, one thing you pull out, the other you push back in. Don't want to pick the wrong one....

What you might try is a sitz bath. Just fix up a tub/basin/whatever of warm water and hold her in it for 10-15 minutes, deep enough that her vent soaks. If you can get her to relax, maybe she will take care of the problem herself.

Thanks for clarifying, DDAWN- that's what I meant but I can see that it could be misunderstood and I would feel terrible to mislead someone and get their hen hurt!

Well I went to take another look. I couldn't see anything sticking out anymore. When I saw it before, I could tell it was not an egg.
So can chickens, fix themselves?

Hope you get it all sorted out and
