The results of the fluid cytology showed it wasn't cancerous. It was a modified transudate (?), most often found in cysts. The ultrasound showed a lot of round objects in her belly. My doctor wasn't convinced they were eggs from internal laying. She pulled out about 12 ounces of fluid. It was a light brown color. Other than walking funny, Dafny has been doing well since that visit.
i took her back Thursday for a recheck. My vet is still puzzled. Our options are to have a specialist come and perform a CT scan to see where these tumors are attached. Or they could do exploratory surgery. i don't like that option. i lost a duck once who had surgery. She got through the procedure then crashed when she started waking up. My vet said that happens a lot. She said ducks are very sensitive to pain. i suspect waking up in a lot of pain, not knowing what has happened to them is just too much sometimes.
So for now, i feel that just draining the fluids every month or so might be the best option. One concerning thing, first time they drew fluid they showed me some and it was that light brown. This time, i asked the tech who assisted my vet what color it was and he said a very dark green. That doesn't sound good.
