International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

My BCM cockerel from Harvey arrived today. I have been awake for over 26 hours so I will take more pics of him soon. It is raining cats and dogs outside and all I want to do is crash. He is a beautiful rooster though. I am very pleased! :D

Congrats, he's beautiful!

Why is it that the best ones are the ones you lose? I had to put down one of my roos the other day due to a leg issue that would make it impossible him to breed. He had the absolute best type, excellent tail angle and no white showing on his tail or wings :( He was a gorgeous boy. I have 2 more left but both have a little white in their tails and tail angles are a little high. One is better than the other though so he'll be the one I use. The other will only be staying around as an emergency backup.

Got a brown egg today. Not thrilled with the color. First egg jitters? The 3 marans (one of which has a totally different body type that makes me suspicious) should be the only brown layers in that coop. I have a polish, favorolle, 2 CLB, EE (lays green), and 2 "sage eggers". I thought my favorolle was laying that creamy tan egg. Never caught them though. Breeder said the marans lay a 6 minimum.

I'd be rabid at 26 hours. But you look so happy!!! Can't wait to see the new little man!

LOL I was rather rabid after being up so long. I'm pretty use to it by now though. The cockerel barely made a peep the whole way home but when I opened the box he sprang up and flew across my kitchen like a flushed quail. He settled down once I handled him a bit though. I'm still thinking on a name for him.

It could be from one of the Favorolles. It definitely isnt a Marans egg. Those Marans take their sweet time to start laying. Lol

I'm happy for you, i know you been putting in the work. Those birds should give every thing you need to produce some really nice birds. I been thinking real hard about trying to get a good cockerel from him or dean. They just got perfect toplines and im afraid i might have to do something like that to get mine where i want them.

He sent the cockerel only for now. He said he will send the pullet separately. I have plenty of females to put the cockerel over. Cant wait to start hatching chicks! If you end up getting a cockerel from Harvey you wont be disapppinted. The low tail and mass alone make him a valuable asset to my breeding program.
