International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I thought this also! Until I got my Harvey Blue Copper Marans. I have one girl about 6 months old. She has layed 7 eggs in 8 days. Her first egg broke. I asked if that was normal to get so many eggs. He said that it is for that group of girls my birds came from. His girls have been laying like that 6 months straight. Wow! I am very happy about dark eggs and good layers.

Thank you! I love my cockerel from Harvey. He is skittish though and likes to keep his distance but he is a very gentle natured bird to the hens. Looking forward to seeing offspring from that group.

You have a very beautiful flock of Marans! All the varieties blended together look so elegent with all the different colors! I LOVE the little white pullet! She is lovely! She definitely stands out. But they are all looking great!

Thanks kayla, Yea i love my like ressesive white girl, she wasn't what she was suppose to be but she sure is pretty. I'm more than likely going to use her in a project.

I would mate her to your cockerel with the best type, mass, and topline and then next year put her best son back over her. You will end up with offspring that are 100% split for white (not showing white, but carrying) the first generation, then when you put a split for white son back over her you will end up with 50% whites and 25% split for white the second generation. The other 25% will be homozygous colored. Fun project for sure! I adore white birds.

No need to be jealous. You have Gorgeous girls. I really am impressed with the Harveys Blue Coppers. You should get some. His Black Coppers are Gorgeous also. My Splash Copper came from the same hens.

I'm going to work with my own blue coppers and breed one of them to my cockerel from Harvey. My blue coppers need work but they have good qualities. One of my blue copper pullets has beautiful mass and bottom line and her color is what I love most. But her topline needs work.. I dont like her U shaped back and high tail. Hoping to see daughters from her with flatter backs and lower tails next year. Harvey's cockerel will hopefully fix that.

I think all those girls will do good over harveys cockerel, he is strong where they are weak. You struck lucky my friend. Lol

I think they'll do well together also. I am optimistic about their offspring. As glad as I am to be getting a break from hatching and brooding chicks, I do look forward to putting some eggs in the bator fathered by my cockerel from Harvey. I still havent figured out a name for him yet. Lol

Im not one for nameing, they're always coming and going around here so i could never keep up with them. But id say call him harvey, it's kinda obvious but why not. Lol
