@chickengr

your rooster is incomplete Columbian with less hackle marking .Wheaten based . like the Marans Hermine'.
I know he is a Wheaten based because his saddle feathering { Lancets } are white not black like the sussex chicken eb.

their eggs are tinted/pinkish. about 70 gr.

I will keep them pure. I planned to get them recognized as a breed. someone warned me that greek people are against that. the reason: any sop birds require inbreeding which leads to health issues. they prefer their birds to be unrecognized but happy and healthy. I totally agree.

does not make any sence to me .
SOP chooks are not all inbred and not healthy . just some breeders they try to do any thing to win NOT to breed Healthy chooks line ,
a lot great breeders managed to breed all the bad health issues from they line by selective breeding .

inbred chooks if bred properly are a real stuff .

70 g super large .
they are good looking chicken . you should breed them well and breed true /pure varieties out of them .you have a few interesting genes in there .
the comb of the roo is going to give you a hard time too many double point . hope one of the hen has no double points .other wise you are going to have trouble in the future .

from the trio you have you can breed many varieties for sure .

I guess no one here would care about breeding healthy chickens. the best thing in this country is let it go. these chickens still sleep on the trees while the imported breeds are kept in bad condition. very few people have enough room for chickens but they breed and sell them. that's why I will try not to buy any chickens any more. in case of need there are 2-3 farms that can be trusted.

I think that my hens don't have double points. it is soooooooooooo good I really don't care about any sop with these birds. I want a colourful flock, that is all. when I have a chance I will pay attention to details but will not cull this boy. he gives me good time when I watch him.

don t take wrongly I did not say cull him .I just said he has a bad comb .we don t need SOP to tell us if the comb is nice or bad .

multiplying chooks to increase they number is not a same as breeding them .
Breeding is fixing a good trait and breeding the bad one ,it is not a creation of any SOP .people been breeding healthy and good chooks sine the a lot time ago .

good luck

no problem, I know you didn't tell me to cull him. I have just checked the girls, their combs are fairly good. problem with this breed is that all the girls have different, somewhat floppy combs. this is partly due to crest, partly due to summer heat. I hope I will get some nice progeny.

the older hen laid an 80 gr egg!

there are very few breeders in greece. most people have chicken prisons: less than 1 square meter cage with 1 roo + 2-3 hens. for the chicks they use rabbit cages. if the chicks don't get sold they remain in those cages although the cages are too low for chickens like jersey giants or similar. poor birds cannot move.

poor chooks .
you will get some nice progeny from your trio for sure .especially from the blue hens .I really like her body type .solid hen ,she ll passes this traits to her progeny for sure .
type from the hen
body colour from the Roo.

here what I think of what colour they progeny will be .
Columbian . buff , blue .Black .partridge and some wheaten red and silver .

it is a good trio to start with .

the blue hen is 2 years old. she laid big egg. another girl is less than 1 year old.

Hello everyone! I have been studying this long thread for a while now. Has taken quite a while to read through most of it. WOW, have I learned alot! Still need to go back and take some notes. lol Great info here!

I had one black copper marans hen a few years ago. She laid a beautiful egg and was a really sweet girl. Fit it well with my mixed flock. She just wasn't the most healthy bird and didn't lay all that well. She passed away suddenly at only 1.5 years old. Don't know why. I still miss her.

Anyway, last Feb 2017, I bought 5 BCM chicks, straight run, all turned out female. They have been so far very healthy, started laying nice dark brown eggs at 20-22 weeks. They have laid well so far. Except one, she started laying, laid well for about a month or so and then promptly went broody. We were coming up on winter so I persuaded her to change her mind after some effort. Wasn't easy!

I have truly fell in love with this breed. I think they are beautiful birds. I love seeing all the pics you folks post here and would like to share some pics of mine. I have never bred any breed toward SOP and only have a hobby mixed flock now. I'm thinking I may like to do this at some point with the Marans and maybe mix in a few Legbars for olive eggers as well. At the present I do not have a Black Copper rooster but may search for one in the future and add more hens as well. I don't think I'd ever want to get into "showing" but would like to stay true to the breed as much as possible.

Following are pics of 4 of them and their eggs. Their names are on the pics. I have one more who will not be still long enough for me to get good pics of. I know they are not SOP but would love opinions as my eyes are just learning what things to look for.

Also any suggestions on what to look for in a rooster/cockerel?

Thanks so much for looking. Sorry this post turned into a novel.
