International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

he has all the thing I hate .sorry to say that .the other 2 .no name and the Elegant one are high quality them him . heavy rooster doesn t mean much , heavy hen ,YES . Rooster need to be correct and colourful .

here what I really don t like ,specially if they are all together in one bird .
Halo hackle .
Dark shoulder
Goofy stature
loose under fluff around the thigh
very high tail ,over 90 Degrees .

he seem to have them in one go .

the other 2 ,they have fault too ,but the have some greater quality worth to breed .
here no name cockerel. the first one you posted .

his fault is only dark shoulder and a high tail .less than 90 Degrees .the rest of the trait are all great far I can see .priceless feather type .well tight to the body .great quality hackle marking anf copper quality .etc..............

the second cockerel you posted .Elegant
screenshot_20190323-144340_gallery-jpg.1711510

look at him .he stand like he run the show .Full of vigour ,no goofiness in here . that what you want to see in the future progeny .solidity of his structure . Fault Black shoulder and high tail . high quality copper .just need more .

if you want to show ,always breed for Elegance ,correctness and Vigour ,you ll unbeatable .

I agree 100%.. that is why the cockerel with the halo will be a cull. I'm glad you feel the same way. It gives me confidence that I'm making the right decisions. We will cull him and the runt this weekend. The runt is the low man on the totem pole and is half the size of his brothers. Not breeder quality. The two darker colored cockerels will stay. Thanks a lot buddy! :)

nice to know he is doing good .
I want to some photos of him standing up right from the front and a side ,no rush .will be nice to see him no moving .
Elegance in chooks is only seen when they are standing correct up right .

his progeny with your hens is going to be very interesting . his body pattern with a copper quality of your hens is a great combination . plus his tail

only a bad thing about him .you can t use him over his daughter as back crossing .because you ll never come out of the Halo .
a good thing about his .you can keep him just for out crossing to the hens from your other lines ,

me I m confident 100% ,a great cockerels are coming out soon from him X Queen .
Duke s Excel in the area Queens is lucking .
Queen proven she can throw solid and well build cockerel ,they just need some colour .Duke s has a truck load of it . great

all the best

Ok I will try to take a pic today. He was excited to be back in the big pen with the girls so he wouldn't stand still yesterday. Lol

Yeah I won't be able to back cross Duke to his daughters unless he and Queen throw a few darker pullets. Like you said I would just be asking for trouble and I will be plagued with halos. He and Queen are a good match though I agree. Hopefully they throw some birds I can show this fall.

I need Duke mainly for his good tail angle. That is his main purpose.. to help me breed the high tails down. Both of my blue copper hens have high tails. But they are HUGE birds so they have a lot of good qualities. All 3 sisters, 2 blues and 1 black are big birds. Very heavy. Lol

Here is a pic of the black copper sister I took the other day. I think you named her Xena. She's very plump. :)

Xena is great type hen. her faults are high tail and loose plumage .both area Duke s excel .

can t wait to see them .all plum and colourful .

you are not far away my friend .few things to fix here and there and EST VOILA great BCM lines .
good luck .

The columbian Marans are amazing! I love that color! Looking forward to seeing them as they mature. Beautiful birds!!
:love

yes it is a stunning pattern . high maintenance to keep it balanced .
I m going to spend most of my breeding program based on them ,the white ,the solid Blue and solid Black plus a silver salmon ,the other varieties I m going to breed them to sale to peoples who want to show and breed . I have a lot work to do .

That sounds awesome! The solid colors (black, blue, and white) are easier to work with and get right I imagine. Silver salmon sounds interesting. What is the difference in a silver salmon and a silver duckwing? Or are they one in the same?

what attract me to the solid pattern White ,Blue and Black is they are very rare .the Frensh Club even suggested to remove the solid black from the SOP. it is painful and shameful too .
I like the pattern and I like the challenge too . plus I know how to do it .

the difference between the salmon and the duckwing is the hen chest colour .
the Salmon hen has to have a Salmon chest coloured .{ Redish type}. like Salmon marans
the duckwing hen doesn t have the salmon coloured chest .like the Welsummer .

both rooster look a like .

some peoples thing the salmon and the duckwing are the same .both are e+ based chooks . Dorking chooks ,marans chooks .
the partridge are a same looking chooks without a salmon chest .they are eb+ based chooks . Welsummer .Brahman etc.........

I agree with a second group of peoples .Duckwing are e+ wild type chooks with a salmon chest. the partridge are eb+ no red chest .

@kfelton0002

I think Duke s has more to offer than his great tail angle .
he is great on type . he could be used for back crossing if you are working for type .
he has a great long and wide back . he is going to be very helpful to you in this area .
he has a gorgeous head ,and great size comb . he ll help

Oh ok you were referring to golden salmon then right? Wild type, aka black breasted red. I thought you said silver salmon.

I have BBR Old English Games and really like them. I'll be showing one of my hens in May. :)
