International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Jackson is half brother to the mottled looking hen. And that hen's mottling didn't settle until she was 18 months old, last fall! Whether it is mottling or not, her progeny have whatever she has more dramatically than she.

and an adorable little legbar pullet

Beautiful tail! Hopefully Princess throws some nice French tails. That is the look I prefer. :)

princess is not far off .mated to a short tail cockerel or rooster she ll throw stunning progeny .
Duke is a good mate for her Or you have to wait to see what duke s progeny will look like , they ll be some handsome cockerels in there for sure .
this season you are going to see some of the best marans coming out of Duke s and your hens . a lot genetic diversity . Hybrid vigour { dominant affect }.

Ah Jackson is related to the mottled hen. so both of them are a carrier of this flaky white .

here what you need to do ,you need to breed it out ,get ready of it ,is going to confuses you in the future .
any chicks come out of the mottled hen is a cull ,

you only need one good hen to start any line and I think you have some gorgeous one s .you don t need to hatch from all the hens you have .bad practice . work with a best ones .even one or 2 hen is enough .
for me I prefer hatching as many chicks from one hen mated to different roosters than fewer chicks from many different hens .

goal this year is dividing out pens. The Marans are all in one big pen, and I've started letting them out to graze now that spring has finally spring! Once the ground unfreezes I can really get started, although my carpentry skills are lackluster at best and shoddy at worst... I just need to buckle down and get it done. My husband helps when he can, but he is usually not well and can't, although he makes a great backseat driver... Lol
So that's the goal, and the best hens will get penthouses, I guess

here's a white pullet. I've noticed that several of the whites don't have very good leg feathering. Easy enough fix, but still stood out as something I noticed.

good luck to you my friend .

your hens have a nice tails. true marans tail .full @ base ,short ,thin and closed at the top .pointed ,except the blue hen .her tail is square and long . good angle .

hatch only from the best hen ,so your breeding program become easier .

your chooks have a lot space .great

is it possible to create mottled marans from those chickens? I might have mottled chickens as well. I would give it a try if possible.
