International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

He will pass on the white, if not outwardly he will pass it genetically.

if his sire and his dam both have the parasitic white ,than he ll pass on to all his progeny . if only one of his parent has the parasitic white ,than he only 50 % of his progeny will be carriers . one condition .the hens is going to be mated to should not have any white any where .

if we have to work with any fault it is not the end of the world .it is nicer not to have too, but in our cases ,all ours chouks have some degree of faults .
the solution is to is to mate the F1 progeny from the faulty parents together , to recombine the genes in different manners .. the F2 generation will have certain percentage without a fault .

I'm working on this as well. It may take me several years to breed it out. I have only noticed white underfluff under the hackles on Queen's cockerels though. That is the only white on them. Luckily the judges don't count it against them for white underfluff. Only white elsewhere in the plumage.

Kept the runs wrapped to keep the snow out and didn’t really get to freerange. They’re all looking a bit rough and enjoying a dust bath. Tried to get good picks of my only roo since chester checked out. He lost his points but did better that we thought he would. Not sure if I should breed him or find another. His eyes aren’t that great, feathers on front of legs, tail is a bit high. And he has this white feather on his tail. Parasitic white?

I really like his body type ,body pattern , complete with a priceless copper . love his red shoulders .

the problem you are having is not you can not breed it out .you are working in many traits in a same time .
you have to mate the sibling together before you out cross them . you should out cross only the F3 .
you have to make sure the F2 progeny should not have the fault you are breeding out . breed the F2 together and you ll get a clean F3 or the majority .

the outcrossing is the one no helping to establish any thing .because of the dominant affect . sibling mating will bring out any hidden stuff .than it is easier for us to just remove it from the next breeding flock .

Are you still dealing with parasitic white? I’m thinking I may test run a batch with mine after checking out 2 of the girls today.

Only white I'm seeing out of last years offspring is white underfluff in the cockerels. No white wing feathers or tail feathers in the males or any of the pullets.

The offer is there if ever you need any, buddy. :)

most of us marans breeders are dealing with some sort of parasitic white .
you need to focus on body type and dark egg colour first .when that is done ,move to the other traits .like body colour ,comb etc.............
marans chooks should look like marans and lay dark eggs .the rest is really for the show .

I have seen a lot stunning looking show quality marans laying very pale eggs .no good
and I have seen a lot skinny horrible looking hens .laying very dark eggs .no good either .

take the offer from @kfelton0002 and hatch a different line of marans .than you ll have a good genetic diversity to keep you going for a long time to breed your line .

you are getting there . doing a great job
when the pullets start showing no sign of any parasitic white on they bodies , the cockerels are only 1 or 2 generation away from been clean .

keep selecting pullets with a pure black feathers and under fluff .

@Hensndoes

this cockerel will be very helpful to add colour to his progeny .
his copper quality is price less . plus the pattern too ,complete .hackle ,saddle ,lancet ,shoulder ,every thing is there . plus he has extra on his chest .

if you get eggs from @kfelton0002 and hatch some pullets .I thing they ll good to mate with him next year .

I can see those 2 line mix well together .they excel in different area .

I never dismiss a highly coloured BCM rooster with a great copper quality from my breeding programs .regardless of any other faults.
a same thing goes for the hens .I never dismiss a heavy hen how lay dark egg from my breeding program , regardless of any other faults .

when our chooks exhibit any good trait ,we have to keep it and add to it .we have to make sure we don t loose it by trying to get some thing else .
