International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

solid Blue marans cockerel .he is getting bigger , not the best body type and a very bad open high tail .
nice head and solid body pattern ,that what I m after .I have a big old black hen to mate too this breeding season .

here the black hen I m planning to mate to . she is big ,solid and has a correct body type and tail .

looking forward to see some chicks from them .solid Black and solid Blue marans .

@Chooks man I have just checked chicken calculator. is it true that when I breed blue cuckoo marans I should also get pure BBS chicks? it looks like the roos are dark cuckoo. if the calculator is right (usually isn't) that would explain how the guy got cuckoo boys and blue girls.

I wouldn't mind it as I would like to have pure BBS marans. much easier to work with.

let say if you breed a Elegant cuckoo rooster to a Blue cuckoo hens you ll get 25% double barred cockerels .25% single barred cockerels ,25% single barred pullets and 25% not barred pullets Birchen type.
do not bred a Blue cuckoo cockerel to a Blue cuckoo hens .too complicated my friend.

both are single barred .- dark cuckoos - the one in the front has a Birchen gene .his hackle has more silver marking .

I put cuckoo hen in chicken calculator.

although it is too complicated I would get both cuckoo and pure BBS chicks. the only problem is how to distinguish them as cuckoo pattern is not so visible on blue.

black cuckoo hen or Blue cuckoo hen ?
it is not complicated if you mate the black cuckoo rooster to a Blue cuckoo hens . 50% of the chicks will have a large white dots ,25% of the pullets will have a small dot ,the rest of 25% pullets will be birchen no dots .
you can see the white dot of a Blue chick ,top of they head.

the blue cuckoo rooster ,don t buy him if the guy has not got any black cuckoo hen/pullets
work with a Black cuckoo rooster over a Blue cuckoo hens ,you ll get a better plumage colour and better Blue too .
