at what age do cockerels start mating?

cockerels do no mature at the same time .some are early maturing 4 months and some are very late maturing 6 months .

black cuckoo hen or Blue cuckoo hen ?
it is not complicated if you mate the black cuckoo rooster to a Blue cuckoo hens . 50% of the chicks will have a large white dots ,25% of the pullets will have a small dot ,the rest of 25% pullets will be birchen no dots .
you can see the white dot of a Blue chick ,top of they head.

the blue cuckoo rooster ,don t buy him if the guy has not got any black cuckoo hen/pullets
work with a Black cuckoo rooster over a Blue cuckoo hens ,you ll get a better plumage colour and better Blue too .

they do not look Blue to me . I could be wrong.

both are single barred .- dark cuckoos - the one in the front has a Birchen gene .his hackle has more silver marking .

you don t need to buy a Birchen rooster to make a Birchen strain . a birchen strain come out of crossing a silver cuckoo rooster to a Black copper hen long time ago .

the dark cuckoo your are going to buy will throw a 25% birchen . that what are you looking for .

the more uniform cuckoo pattern should be visible on black, right? besides the dark colour that is what makes me think they are black.

I can send the blue guy and 1 hen to my friend. we shall work together in the future.

they are dark cuckoo 100% .
the cuckoo pattern is more visible on a Black plumage for sure .

I have 2-3 hens I am not sure if they are black or black copper. I will mate them to the elegant guy and see what I get.

I told you .the Blue cuckoo rooster is not for you if you don t have a black cuckoo hen .

you can mate him to a Black copper hen and start a line from there .that will take a lot of time . but it is possible .
