I picked up my new cuckoo marans. they are soooooooooooo wild! I had to clip their wings. I hope they will not be able to escape.

1 hen is chunky and another one is fairly good. both roos look birchen. I am not sure if they are black. their bottoms are gray while their head, back and wings are mostly black. they have a few gold or copper spots.

my stupid computer is blocking my camera so I cannot download the photos.

I'll try to explain:

both hens look the same, nice type and small low tails. 1 is lighter in weight and has little breast but is not skinny. the other one is from the photo you saw and told me to get her. she is heavy and has a lot of breast. but she has twisted comb. at least it is small and the back part is raised from her head. the lighter hen has small, straight comb, raised from her head but dents are not well serrated.

the elegant roo is somewhat tall. he has some red leakage and about 3 white feathers. his tail is tall but I hope the hens will fix it. he takes good care of the flock. my (laying) hens accepted him without hesitation. the other roo is (in my opinion) better. he is almost pure silver with more silver hackles. he has 2 tiny red spots - leakage and only 1 white feather in his tail. his tail is 45 degrees. first thing he did in the morning was to challenge my araucana roo through the wire. he spent about half day doing that. but when the gate accidentally opened the elegant guy had a fight with araucana. luckily they separated and each stayed in his run. I went there when it was over. even blood on their combs dried out.

I plan to keep these 2 pairs with my laying hens so that the girls don't get overmated. they are the only marans in that flock so easy to pick up their eggs. unfortunately their eggs are #4. I wonder if they can get darker as all of them are from the same flock.
