International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

The more I think on it the more I think I should run away from the offer as the offered egg parents look so poor compared the the first set

agree with you .the first set are gorgoeus and correct too .

the second set have a high tail and like you said a hen is black ,don t go for it .try to find some thing better .take your time .

the chicks you hatched from the first set will be correct so they need some thing similar to them to work with not less .

The simpler the better, in my opinion. The less pens/birds I will be breeding will make it easier for sure. I'm not looking for quantity so much as quality and balancing out issues. Well matched single mated pairs will cut down on the volume of culls as well, as opposed to group mating 4-5 females to one male.

agree with you . simpler is better ,quality is better than quantity .
group mating without knowing or marking the eggs is the worst practice the person can do . produce a lot culling ,mixed up progeny and cost a lot to feed .

normally group mating should hapen after the chooks are single mated/ tested /proven breeders .and are compatable .like group of true sister hens evenly muched penned to 1 rooster .that will work because there is much variation .

I prefer mate th young stock to as many cockerel /rooster as I can to see what ork .
we can look at the chooks and see they are perfect { but it is not a show} but how they breed is more important to us .we want they progeny .that what we are after .

chooks who can throw progeny better than them selves

test mating is a go .20 chicks of each pair that a lot

I will hatch as many as I can accomodate. At least 20 from each pair if hatching goes well.

So is Perfect going to be best suited with Prince (Queen's son pure from my line)? She has good color and he is dark. Seems like a good fit.

yes my friend .Perfect X Prince .line breeding to Queen s
Perfect is a daughter of Duke s { split hackle } ,Prince is from diferent rooster { uniform hackle marking} so we are not taking riscks and breeding her to Duke s sons { half brother from Dukes}
we want to promote Queen s genes .
Prince is 50% Queen s and Perfect is 25% Queens = so 75% Queens, 50% Duke s .25% Malika s Sire .50% Prince sire .in this pairing .Queens has a higher percentage ,so we call that breeding to Queen .
Queens appear in both side of the Pedigree .upper part of the Pedigree Sire line Prince and lower part of the Pedigree Dam line .

I will like to mated to with Dark Angel to test they progeny .

I need to check her wing band but they were group mated so theres really no telling which hen was her Dam. Duke is her sire. I did mark some of Queen's offspring as I can tell her eggs out of the lineup. But not all of them. I marked some of Malika's as well as her eggs I can tell apart as well. I can look at their wing bands when I have more time and see.

worth checking . maybe she is Queens daughter .will be a blessing . .that will give you a Dam ,2 daughters from different pairing and a Grand daughter is your breeding pen .

she is Duke s ,than she goes with Prince .
2 nicely marked pullets from Duke s mated to Prince no related to Duke s . that what we are trying to do .breed out Duke s Fault .the SHM { split hackle marking} but keep all the other good traits he managed to pass down to his girls .LONG BACK and GORGEOUS TAIL . Prince need those 2 traits .

compatable pairing .

solid Black cockerel .line bred .sired by Black Mamba over his sister Ravendale .both of them are inbred to Matice the sire and grand sire so they are 75% Matice .by breeding brother and sister I m maitainning 75% Matice blood .
so the little guy is true Solid Black 75% inbred to Matice sire line . mean he does have Matice in both side of the Pedigree upper part sire line BM and lower part Dam Sire line .
he is solid ,wide but not long .his back is a little shorter .that fine with me . have a lot plans for him .he better grow faster and start crowing .

Blue cockerel in the middle . he is silver Blue cuckoo early feathering type.sired by Stallone over Warda his daughter ,the little guy is 75% Stallone .line bred first generation . long and wide .
when fully grown he will be tested with few of his sister to check for the recessive genes carried by this line ,before I go any ferther .
