TBH the vet would say, yeah, you should use probiotics. Then she would ask what sorts are used on chickens! She's a generalist but a great surgeon, and because my mother is another veterinarian and a great friend, we barter certain services in exchange for veterinarian care(my husband is an IT guy and a Microsoft certified hardware tech) we tend to comisserate on poultry problems, she gets a chance to learn and I get a chance to get proper treatment. Last summer I brought in a severely eggbound turkey, and my mother worked on her.The vet did a wonderful job. She looks great! Does she have a name? She and you are in my prayers for speedy recovery.
As for easy to digest foods, you may lol but my first thoughts were from many years ago my daughter's pediatrician would recommend the 'BRAT' diet when her tummy was out of sorts.
It means Bananas
Rice (kind of overcooked)
Applesauce
Toast
Don't know for a chicken, but the rice would give her some variety and the egg...lot of protein and vitamins. Maybe later a bit of soaked feed.
I'd probably give a vitamin supplement too. Did the vet recommend one?
I'm just amazed at how well she looks now. Bet she's glad to be at home. That was a ton of hay!
Hoping you and her the best!
Well, I only currently have 2 pens for the marans. I have the handsome blue silver cock in with the biggest, most beautiful black silver hen, and he's got a splash hen in with him( I've had some requests for splash chicks) and a few of the whites( the only other person who had a white hen from 2 years ago stated that they got blue chicks and I figured I would find out if I got lots of splash and blues, it would confirm that the dam of the whites is blue or splash since sire was black silver. The white cock will be put in with the white hens soon and I'll swap the blue cock to the general group, where there are 2 black silver cocks over 14 girls.do you have eggs in the bator or just collecting ?

I hadn't named the hen who had surgery today. She does have a chunk out of her comb in the front from squabbling at 4 months old, and before she was a big, beefy girl, which is why I kept her for this season. This was definitely a learning experience for both me and Dr Anderson.
The hen lost half a pound from having her crop emptied! That was really full of junk!
Yes! That turkey is named Annabelle, she's going to be 5 years old this year, a burbon red hen. I'm afraid, however, that the problem damaged her shell glands. She doesn't have thick enough egg shells anymore and she very well may end up eggbound again because of it. Turkey hens can keep laying fairly well until 7 years old on average, and can successfully brood for even longer, so poor Annabelle!I always thought eggbound is dead end . did she safe her ?
nice to have peoples who know what they are doing . great gift of life .

They are doing ok! The one black Copper pullet has a damaged comb. She is one of my two breeders. I don't think she was born that way. They are in with the rooster. I think he damaged it trying to breed her. I was getting some eggs from that pen but they stopped laying. I was even getting pullet eggs.agree with you .build your flock first .you just started .so don t be shy to say no to people who want marans chooks for free . Marans cost us a lot money and work .

PS = how is a chooks doing this winter ? are they looking good , breeding season is just around the corner for you guys .
I really need a vet in the family! Our black cat Leopold had a big lump appear on his toe. He is 2 1/2 years old and it ended up being cancer. About $600 to remove his toe. Praying the cancer doesn't return. He said it was a very aggressive cancer but he got it all.
