it is too early to cull for colors now .I will not worry about it for the moment .they change so many time you know that .

I had some that where mossy hatch last year but thought I culled them all. One of them must be carrying but not showing. I am assuming the hen correct? I hope my whole flock is not all carrying. That means all these chicks are carrying the mossy gene but not expressing it. Correct? I think all the eggs so far are coming from the same hen but not 100% sure. I believe so though. I have even worse news the two BC pullets have leg injuries and not laying yet.

I got my first egg from my six and a half month olds. I ut it next to a RIR egg for comparison.

I m telling you my friend .it is too early culling for plumage color yet . you are just stressing your self . take it easy let them grow and molt few time to see if it is just short parasitic term or permanent ,
I had mossy chicks many time as chicks but pure and clear plumage at adult stage .
Mossy plumage is caused by Autossomal red genes . can be carried by both sexes hen and rooster .
it is a reason I always say ,we need to know witch egg come from witch hen . so when trouble appear we know where chick come from ..
sorry to hear about your BC pullets .what happen to they legs? how old are they now?

Number 51 is. LOL number 52 likes to jump on my feet and jump off and puff up then watch to see what I'll do. Which is that I grab him and hold him while I do things. he backs off for several days after that. But i am trading him out with another breeder for new blood. Now that I am holding him, I found an extra point coming out of the side of his comb. that and his coloring means he is being traded in 3 weeks time.
