International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I have 4 chicks so far out of 8. I hope more hatch. I have 2 BC and 2 Blcm. I am putting more eggs in today. I have 7 eggs from pearl the original hen. Waiting to see if I get 1 more today before setting. Edited: 6 hatched 3 BC and 3 blcm.

I think it has more to do with me giving everyone artificial light all winter. I turned the lights off everyone shut down. I saved combs but at the expense of laying this spring. Just starting to get eggs. Not even my turkeys are laying. Lesson learned. Won't do that again!

you can use black ceramic reptile bulbs: heat and no light.

I just switched over to these for my chicks. I really like using them. They work best with the metal dome fixtures. Other fixtures like the Prima light fixture by Premier 1 one do not work well with it as they do not force the heat down.

very good observation .

I did testing comparing the two. The metal dome wins hands down. I have 50w 100w 150w and 200w ones. Yep see I really like them.
This combo Works great!

With this fixture below it does NOT work well, here is a photo for reference. Even with the red bulb the heat is not forced down in the plastic fixture really limiting the effectiveness.
