International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I will need your help. I hope to cull some earlier on. Not keep them all till 6 months old. I am so tempted to cull my Birchen. Part of me like them and part of me think there is a lot of work to get them cleaned up. My rooster is clean but some of my hens are carrying brassy. Takes away from my first love BC and Blcm.

yeah let them do a more hatching and more growing than we will talk about culling .
you don t need to keep them all for 6 months . best cockerels yes ,you need time to select the best .
do not keep any BLC only keep the BC .that will give you space for them .you have plenty of BLC .
I think you should get ready of the Birchen line .keep some hens as layer but do no breed them .focus on BC and BLC
all the future BLC pullets will be mated to BC rooster
all the future BC hens will be mated to BLC rooster .
one year keep the BC chicks { cull the BLC } other year keep BLC chicks { cull all the BC }

make breeding joy not hard work . make it simple and efficient ,

Hello everyone, I am so glad to see the thread is still going strong. I have missed you all. I lost Antonio this week to a fox. I managed to run the fox off but Antonio could not recover from his injuries. He was such a great rooster. Big, kind, gentle. I will miss him.

sorry for your loss:hit

and welcome back!

I lost both Lilly and Rose that I got last fall. Very bad! I only have the one longer tail BC pullet left. I did put a hand full of eggs from the pen with the original rooster and one of the hens in with him that lay that nice egg. I was hoping for a BC pullet. I don't know if that would help or not.

sorry for your loss. I hope you will hatch nice girls.

they are smaller .mean they lost mass ?
if you still have some of the original hens than is not too bad .you can breed them to Jolio.
if you want to fix the tail in your flock you have to ask @kfelton0002 { we haven t see her for a white .must be super busy with what going on now } she have line of Good tail marans . @marchick as well .good line ..

very good your dog can make a difference between the eggs laying noise and panic noise .
keep the chooks safe .

me I restarted all new last year .sold the old line and now have all new blood line .got some of my old line back { out crossed to other lines } well happy about it ,

I am going to look at some new chooks (I never get to use that word... fun to be Aussie for a day) tomorrow.

I probably won't keep any Birchen. I would much rather keep the Blue Copper pullets from the hatches as a laying flock and possible backup if needed.
