International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I feel like I have worked too hard on my line to part with it and start over because of the split wing. I will just cull hard for it and hopefully one day eliminate it. :(

you can t just throw it and start over ,from where you are going to get the new chooks ,from somebody else .you will be back to square one .
do add new chooks to your line . that what causes a problem ,
work with each of your hen and rooster ,see witch pair is compatible . I know I have been saying many time .but it is very important .
one pair who can produce correct progeny better than hole backyard filled with average chooks .
you my friend have stunning ,very nice hens .roosters not yet . just need to find time { I know it is hard} to breed them properly . 10/15 chicks from each pairing .1 hard year and the troubles will be over .
facus on your hens ,never mind the roosters .they are the one causing you trouble ,
breed the hens ,make them a head of the they clan .
see witch one will stand out ,make her your queen .

I have found 3 queen this year in my flock=
.Dalakhania . pullets line Dam .{ mated to Black Mamba }
Unicorn supreme breeder .cockerels and pullets { mated to Day walker }
Gazelle .supreme breeder .pullets and cockerel { mated to Day Walker / Black Mamba }

rest of my 50 hens are just occupying the space without paying rent . they are all classify as layers . no way I will breed from them again .

This is literally the best picture I could get of Jolie. She and Houdini have been squabbling as they are still getting used to each other.

she is stunning . mark her eggs .hatch them and focus on her son s if she can produce one like her . mate her to both rooster ,so you can compare the 2 progeny .

I don t see any major fault .

I will probably have the split wing also Since my birds came from Harvey.

what make you say that .your chooks did not throw any split wings . so don t throw out to the heavens ,
you don t see it ,did not come out on the chicks ,than don t think about it my dear friend .

I keep telling you your chooks are stunning ,they proved it ,they produce Blaze and Nimbus ,gorgeous correct cockerels .

I know that I need to work with my birds. This year has been a complete flop so far. Too much going on. The schools closed in my state due to Covid-19 so I've had to home school my son for the past few months and that has taken a lot of time away from the birds. I haven't gotten to focus on them like I need to. I'm hoping the birds lay well this summer so I can hatch more from them. The males are already dropping feathers so I worry they are all about to start molting. :(

Sorry my friend it has been a difficult year for sure. I hope it gets better for everyone. I hope your hens don't molt and you can get a few chicks out of them. I am waiting for clean out and our electric to get done. I am looking at a July hatch. We still need permits for electrical work. The guy said it will be a month to complete. Then back to hatching.

Hopefully the molt holds out for us both then! These chickens are stressing me out. Lol
