International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I have a lot to learn. I've never heard of the lavendar copper marans. Thank you for the info.

they do not exist just some body is making them up .
lavender gene does not exist in pure marans population .so any lavender chicks is not pure marans do not breed it in the future with pure marans please .

I appreciate the feedback. It’s really tough when you are new and trying to do the “correct” things because people seem so reluctant to share information and knowledge.

I am wondering about the gene for feathering on the legs and toes. Is that a dominant or recessive gene? I ask because I know that the French standard calls for the feathering and the English standard does not. Yesterday I received a shipment of five [2 day old] chicks that are supposed to be from French champion bloodlines. However, none of them have feathered legs. Is that possible? If I breed them to my little girl that hatched last week [she does have feathered legs] will I get correct feathering on the offspring? I'm very disappointed as I paid a fair sum for what I expected to be "correct" FBCM babies. Should I contact the breeder?

if the breeder is saying they come from French champion bloodlines .they should have feathered legs .the ones he/she send you are not pure french blood line .

Marans are French and they are going to stay that way.

Thank you. I only had the one hatch that you already saw pictures of. I set 23 more from a different breeder in the incubator yesterday and she breeds to the French standard. Lovely, big hens! Cross my fingers for some nice quality chicks to come from that hatch. Regarding these that I purchased live without the leg feathers... would you suggest I keep them and try to breed it out or should I sell them and not even consider using them as part of my breeding program?

Thank you. No intentions of mixing any other type of Marans. I've heard of others like Mystic, Wheaton, etc. I'm only interested in the pure French Marans.

if the eggs in the bator come from a big hens ,than expect large healthy chicks .

chicks without feathers on they legs can be bred back to french type marans to add feathers .
leg feathering genes are dominant ,you only need one crossing and the problem is fixed .

I got 10 eggs from a local breeder (4 BCM, 2 BLM, 2 Splash CM, 2 LCM) to hatch under a broody. I had 3 chicks hatch. I added some Ameraucana chicks later to broody after so few hatched. I am very interested in feedback on the 3 chicks ( I believe to be LCM, SCM, BCM). I hope this is an ok place to post the other variation. From the feedback I’ve seen the BCM is not the best? I don’t have great pics since broody is a bit uncooperative. They hatched 6/20 so around 3 weeks old in pics.
