Black chick in front without tail is a boy ,not good body type plus late feathering type .
the chick with tail and wing is really good one . true marans body type and early feathering type too .well chunky .no sure if boy or girl .

no chick is perfect. feathered legs are easy to fix, don't worry.

there is a lot perfect chicks if they come from a good breeding stock .hard to find for sure but they are out there .

you select well not perfect but good .
correct body type ,well built ,good looking /elegant stand , will pass this genes to his chicks , Stand /Elegance and inherited through the sire not the dam .
correct and complete body pattern at young age great stuff .

there is some work to be done ,comb too big { leghorn type } .
you are building a house a proper way .you starting with good foundation , rest will come after .

Thank you for your critiques. This is one of the 3 blood lines I have. The other 2 lines are to young. He will have to do for now as he replaced my other Roo that had way to much blonde color.

agree with you ,copper is very important they are called Black copper not Blond copper .
good to know you have different blood line to work with .
Mark this one as = body type /complete body pattern / correct copper Breeder Cock
mark as well NOT to be bred with hens with split wing or carriers of the fault .

He is a good looking dude. My question for the others is this photo. Is this split wing? 80% of my birds have similar wing feathering and I am considering it split wing, kinda hoping it molts out.

look like it is . but he still young maybe molting some feathers out .

I have been trying to select a breed of chicken to finally work with. I have had many breeds but now going to stick with the FBCM as my main flock and focus. Will be fun to see the youngsters I have grow up.

when you stick to one breed of chooks ,good thing will happen , you will breed them well .
