Congrats! Very nice for a first egg! If you can track her first 20-30 eggs noting the color for each then after her 20th or 30th egg you can calculate the average shade of color she lays.

What is a good color chart to use to grade the eggs?
If you join one of the Marans Clubs they will send you a color chart. I haven’t found any place else that sells Marans Color Cards. Pics always seem to lighten eggs but I would say your pullet’s egg is a #5.

Okay folks, line #2 is now 5 weeks old. I finished their run this morning and this is their first time out of their coop.

Sorry for so many pics. Their hard to photograph. I have 2 obvious cockerels out of 9. They all had correct hatch down but were tall and thin looking compared to my line #1. I like them though and it will be interesting to see how they grow out.

Lighter leg feathering which im happy about. One cockerel is very slow feathering type.

This is Negan. Line #1. 9 weeks old.

Couldnt get good pics. I will try later.
My fear with him is he had the worst hatch down. So much white all over his face. Im worried he will pass the parasitic white to his offspring.

He was also the biggest jerk but that has improved.
