I would grow this cockerel out if you have the space. He has good type and color. His tail is long but nice angle - he will fill out a lot as he matures so hopefully he will grow into his tail. He could use a better comb but paired with the right hen could fix that.

Take Care, Keith

Hey everyone, just checking in. Hope all is well. It hasn't been the best year for me raising Marans but I have a few. We have battles raccoons all summer. Once the grow outs are a little older I will take some pics. So far, my favorite black copper cockerel with good copper somehow broke his wing yesterday. He probably had a run in with a game rooster. I've had to tape his wing to set it so hopefully he will heal. There is a blue copper cockerel I have my eye on as well, and one black copper pullet. Im seeing TONS of dark and marbled eyes in my grow outs. There are only a few with clearer eyes.

Summer keeps us busy keeping the birds watered and cared for. That coupled with working full time in Healthcare I dont get a lot of free time. Sorry for my absence. :)
Hi Kayla , Thought I would check in an see how everyone is doing. I have a few BC growing out at present , plan to hatch some more in October. Hope all is good with your family. Don

I had hoped to shut the incubator off soon, but I'm going to set what few Marans eggs I'm getting from the brood pens. There is always next year. Glad to hear from our old crew! :D

So nice to see you again!
I wondered what happened to you and assumed your work schedule had you busy.

Youve been missed.

Its great to see you too! Between work and chickens I have been crazy busy. Add some family drama in and thats my life in a nutshell. I moved to dayshift in the spring but have recently been helping out on nights. It has been hard working directly with covid. But as I've worked with it, I'm not as afraid of it. Its just so hot in all the garb we have to wear. Lol

I have missed you all as well!

Good to hear from you Kayla! I can only imagine how busy you are given your profession, caring for animals and just regular life in general. Sorry to hear about your cockerel, hopefully his wing will heal.

Take Care, Keith

Yeah its a pretty rough time to be in Healthcare right now but we'll all get through this.

I think my little cockerel should recover fine, but most broken wings usually never get back completely to normal. I have 2 game hens that had broken wings, one as a pullet and one as an adult and neither of them can fly up high to roost anymore. Even despite me setting them, the wings are just hardly ever the same. They do fine though and it doesn't seem to bother them. The cockerel will hopefully serve well as a breeder if he grows out to be worthy, even with a gimpy wing. Lol

I work Behavioral Health in a psychiatric hospital. The gowns and masks all day make it rough.

We need marans pictures....

Hey Don ,
I thought you scrapped your MARANS at least three times now! Glad to see you still have some. I don't think I could give mine up. I have too many chickens.:he:he
