International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I found out in my birds by breeding Father back to daughter that the green leg really showed. I just went and had the oriental group come and get then all. We still have a few adult fowl.
That is what I will do this spring, breed my cock bird back over his daughters. We will see, I am hoping for darker egg color. Probably just open up another pile! Gotta love the game. I can eat alot of chicken. I have Asian friends too!! TOM

@marchick
he is actually stunning .good head/comb/eyes.l, very long back and well colored .lovely uniform copper .
his tail is a little longer that all and his comb could have a extra point .
remove him from a cull pen please .
I think this guy has more to offer than other 2 . I like more .

line breed your darkest egg layer to lock in the dark egg genes .
your marans have correct body type and hackle marking ,plus correct copper too . always loved looking at photos of your marans , they should be line bred .

best way to darken the egg is to breed your dark egg layer back to her son /G son etc ..... you get better result . a hen is the one who lay eggs not rooster .
for me I breeding Sire over his daughter is I want to fix a body pattern or color . Sex linked genes .
if I m working on body type and dark egg genes I prefer use a hen who is showing those traits. sex linked genes . .
to fix the eyes color I prefer using a rooster over his daughter .great result .
to fix a comb I use any of the 2 parents Autossome genes .

the trait we chose to work with { Autosome or Sex linked } will dictate the pairing.

this pullet is the one laying those lovely dark eggs . managed to catch her yesterday .
her sire is from Import line BLC big solid boy ,her mama is BLC hen from liza s line her best dark egg layer and biggest hen too .
I will breed her to my Solid Black Rooster Black mamba { his daughter lay dark eggs }.first round ,
second round i will breed her to her true brother ..
3 round she will bred to Dark Blue Cuckoo cockerel .fast growing and very big specimen like her .this pairing is for body type and fast growing chicks .

she is my best hen is farm now .name her Dark Angel after @kfelton0002 cockerel .

My plan is to thin out that pen and put all the BC cockerels in there. I hope by the first of the week. I have been helping a friend all day so just responding to your post. I will be extremely buisy this weekend.
