I have 3-4 week old chicks from the same breeder as group #1 . 24 Chicks total hatched.
These are the eggs, not super dark but we are also later in the season.

The eggs I remember being the darkest were group #2 (I think your favorite Pullets)

It’s a great incubator. Set and forget it. I currently have quail eggs in it now. In my articles page some place you will find the modifications I made to it. Basically drilled some more holes in the top plastic for more access spots.

they look dark enough for me , like you said late in the season .
photos please of the chicks .I like breeder #1 chooks ,they need some work but they have a lot going for them .

how many marans you do have really ?

wow that is great if my favorite pullet group #2 hatched from dark egg ,now we are talking .
cockerel#1 X pullet #2 = great marans . some work will be needed but not huge amount ,the great marans genes are split between them . she exile in the areas he is lucking .she has a long flat back and great tail angle . he has great body pattern and great copper . plus correct stand .
both line carry dark egg genes .great stuff .

back from the farm .all the chooks are doing very well .laying like there no tomorrow , shame not incubating , no time .
Monday I will going back to the farm ,need to select and separate all my breeders ,prepare them for the move .all the cull will be going to friend of mine she is looking for large number of heritage breed layers . she will be paying me 2 bags of chooks feed by pullet , she is happy with a deal .
