International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I am really, really confused. I have never seen a hen with this much color on her chest. I thought the copper on the hen was supposed to be in the hackle feathers and only the hackle feathers. The #1 cockerel has much more copper in the chest than I ever thought was accepted in the SOP for a cock. I thought a SOP cockerel was supposed to have a 99% black chest. I know he is not for show, just breeder. If these two are bred together would not all the cockerels be culls. I know nothing and now I know even less now!
If we are breeding for body type and only body type in this pairing, then what do we do with all the culls. It just seems like too much cooper!! Please explain?

do a first home buyer and the big family look for a same type of house? No my friend .
first home buyer will look for a smaller house to start they family .
big family will look for a big house .they need more room .

same for us as breeder .if some one is just started to breed . first they have to breed for type and dark eggs genes .
more advence breeders will breed for many different trait at the same time ,because they have a larger flock .

@RoosterML have her first BCM hatched from fertile egg from 2 different line .I m trying to help her to build her flock first without going into focusing too much in show traits .

build a house first ,than start decorating it .

here a detail explanation of my madness .hahahaaaaaaaaaaaa.

ER/ER family genetically should have a well marked chest ,all the way to the thighs . that what ER mutation does .
BC marans breeders chose to select for less chest marking . problem with that .more we reduce a chest marking ,more we produce black pullets . they are all over the place in all country where BCM are bred . peoples are doing some thing wrong .

to produce a show quality BCM rooster .we don t need to go the SOP ,what we need to do is the balance a breeding pens .
we need to separate cockerels and pullets breeding pens .

cockerels pen = the sire should have a black chest or a little possible copper . but complete body marking . the Dams should have a complete hackle marking.

pullets pen = sire should have a copper chest { how much ,depend on the hens marking} complete body pattern . Dams should have a complete hackle marking or just some of it .

we are doing thing wrong trying to breed both cockerels and pullets from a same pen . good luck to every one .long road ahead . peoples have tried before . where is they marans .all black hens .

BCM Breeder Cock should have a complete body marking .uniform copper .complete shoulder pattern .coppery ears tufts and marked chest .

pullet #1 .correct me if I m wrong .I ll be commenting on 4 pullets .this one is #1.

she has a stunning copper and complete hackle marking .love her eyes and her pure dark plumage .
her problem are bent comb and very long tail .
mass =I don t know?

she will breed well with cockerel #2 . trick in this pairing is ,we are trying to get a cockerel who has his sire body type/body pattern and his dam copper .
some cockerels from this pairing will have a split hackle marking{ yellow bottom part of the hackle}, others will be good .
we will select for the most complete cockerel and mate him back to his aunts to reinforce the copper quality .
comb/ tail/eyes/length of the back/feet feathers are all autossomal genes .they could be fix by either the Dam or Sire .
cockerel #2 and pullet#1 are compatible .
