International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I was waiting for him to mature and show his complete conformation .
Now I see ,he is no use to us .too many major faults .if just one fault ,than it is alright ,but he ia loaded .
Very short back .
very high tail
VH feet .
no much color on his shoulders .

this guy has to go ,no way you can work with him .no way out .
now we know what traits his sisters carries

I agree.
Negan also has those vulture hocks...

he also has constant inflamed follicles on his toes from being so heavily feathered there. Even his middle toes.

The 2 from line #2 looked so good a month ago and then boom. Those dang tails.

I was planning to use negan from line #1 over the line #2 hens

The other cockerels from line #2 over the line #1 hens.

But now im thinking negan may have too many faults that will be hard to breed out.

Do i just hold on to all 3 until the time comes to select for breeding or do i get rid of Negan now?

I do have some pullets that look like they will be long and wide. Only time will tell i guess. They are 6 months old and have more growing to do.

Line #1 pullets are big and wide but they are related to Negan and im worried they will pass on his faults.

But as @chooksman says "This is why we test breed"

Its good to know you have bred some with big faults and gotten nice prodigy.

Thank you

@Punkybrewster
you are wrong about this guy .I do no see short back at all .
what I see from this photo is a stunning long cockerel with full body pattern .stunning copper .
good head and feet . nice comb ,nice eyes.
well colored shoulders .
long and strong neck well feathered .
solid stand .
gorgeous tail .it is a little high that all .

he has one fault = tail little higher .
he is your breeder cockerel .he is the keeper 100%

love his deep chest

I wrote this while you were responding @chooksman.

So i will get rid of Negan then.
So sad. Hes a cool dude.

I will keep the 2 line #2 cockerels.

yes .you only keep line #2 .both cockerels .I like them both .

Negan has to go .if you have space and you like him ,than keep him but do no breed from him .
I have about 20 roosters in my farm ,they are not breeders ,they are just cool and I like them .I have a lot space and a lot of pens .so I keep the one I like .

@kcrandall said he was a good one too.

Maybe this high tail makes me see a short back.

This guy is the quiet one. Lowest of their pecking order. Stands back and watches everything.

Im so glad to hear this.

it is correct when the tail is high makes the back look short .
I ll wait to see more photos of him .
