very light color chart .
number 6 is light should be number 8
9 is a 7 on the marans chart .

all different color.

for me any thing between 5/7 is good .6 are my favorite without been too extreme . maintaining the fertility and body type .

wow, thats awesome. how long have you be working at it.

I started with a chooks january 2014 .

bought 120 dozen of fertile marans eggs mostly Wheaten and some Black coppers .

a lot variety i have noew come from those eggs .

i did buy more breeders over this year and I haven t stopped buying if i see some thing nice to work with .

I buy genes not chooks . I don t carre how the chooks I m buying look like as long as they have the genetic trait I m after ..

it is fun to breed a marans chooks ,they are so rich in colors ,so many varieties can be bred from just hasn t been done before .

in my knowledge there is only Monique and Emile GR in France have a proper breeding stock many varieties in big numbers .

there is Bev Davis in the USA who has a great numbers of marans varieties .

my project is to restore and recreate all the marans varieties genetically possible .no limit .

10 years project . I m on my 3rd year and I m happy where I m at now.

Well that's I awesome! I commend you for that and wish you luck on your journey. I could only hope do those kinds of things, and I respect every aspect of you goal. right now if I could just get a decent BCM line going I would be thrilled.

here arwe some of my breeding chart for my rooster for this breeding season .paper work done ,the coop and the incubation room almost ready .in 2 week time I m going to have some eggs in the bator. can t wait. want to see new chicks .

first chart Vicking 2 and Erickson 2 .both F3 Birchen cockerels
each cockerel is going to cover 3 pens . 6 week duration in each pen

chooks man

here now White Storm breeding chart . he is exiting rooster to work with a lot different color type I m expecting from him.

the F1 Silver cuckoo hens breeding chart for this season;

all the green marking are the Black copper pullets from better stock .

this sort of calculation helps me to put my breeding pen s together . I like to group the hens not recording to they colors but recording to result I m looking for from the mating .

this way i ll have better understanding how my chooks are put together from scratch .

they all marans any way .

This is the kind of thing I like seeing, it's less a science and more a art.

I agree with you Chooks man, hatching new chicks is a lot of fun.

Best of luck with this years breeding program.

Thanks Amelia Egghart I checked out the thread but it is a bit hard to read because he used gene code instead of f1 , f2, and f3. I'm just starting to learn this subject but I will study it and learn.

Hey guys! Taking a break from my reading to stop in. I just went down to check on my coops. I am a bit concerned with my cockerels from FRF. The one I liked the best (#1) STILL doesnt have a tail and they are 3 months old.

Cockerel #2 has a wierd looking comb that is starting to lop over in the back. He also has a really high and long tail already. He also has something funky going on with his back feathers. They arch and stick up in the middle of his back and lay the opposite direction that they should (they have been this way for quite a while and havent resolved). He is more than likely chicken dinner.

Cockerel #3 is looking good but has what looks like a wry tail!

I will take pics when I can.
