International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Ragnar is 21 weeks old today so I thought I’d share a few pics. I really like this cockerel a lot - he has good type, deep breast, wide back front to back, well spaced legs, well arched neck, and strong head. He is slower to color up than my other cockerels but he is getting there. His copper is rich and fairly uniformed so far - he has minimal copper spotting on his breast, the only white on this guy are a couple of small spots on his feet. Under fluff at base of tail is black. The only thing I really don’t like about him is his comb and wattles but I’m not going to worry about that right now. He is a meaty bird that will put the dual purpose in my new line of Marans. The last pic is of Ragnar at 10 weeks. I can’t to see what he looks like at 8 months.

he is stunning my friend .well breed ,all the great marans traits are there .
his comb is not great but it is not that bad ,good shape and texture need refine the points .the wattles are good to me a little fold in one of them but good size and shape not too small neither big .
love his stand and long neck . well proud of him self .

Thanks Chooks Man! Since I’m starting over I’m really focused on type, depth and width. I want to build a good foundation first then I’ll focus on the visual asthetics in future generations. Combs and wattles are going to be an issue with this line but I think I got lucky with fairly decent tail sets.

Here a few representative pics of some pullets. Overall, the pullets have good type. The girls were not cooperating for pics so I’ll take some better pics of individual pullets. All pullets have numbered colored leg bands so I can easily identify them for discussion.
