International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Ragnar is 21 weeks old today so I thought I’d share a few pics. I really like this cockerel a lot - he has good type, deep breast, wide back front to back, well spaced legs, well arched neck, and strong head. He is slower to color up than my other cockerels but he is getting there. His copper is rich and fairly uniformed so far - he has minimal copper spotting on his breast, the only white on this guy are a couple of small spots on his feet. Under fluff at base of tail is black. The only thing I really don’t like about him is his comb and wattles but I’m not going to worry about that right now. He is a meaty bird that will put the dual purpose in my new line of Marans. The last pic is of Ragnar at 10 weeks. I can’t to see what he looks like at 8 months.

Gorgeous.

I just finished putting Negan in the freezer.

Looking him over before culling him, I noticed how much parasitic white he had under his hackles that couldnt be seen unless I part his feathers.

If you remember, he had the worst hatch down as a chick.

The big question is, will his 3 half sisters from line#1 pass this on too.
I guess we will have to wait and see what they hatch out using the line #2 cockerels.

I DO know i will not keep any chicks with bad hatch down.
